Patent Agent needed for Boston office

A law firm located in Boston, Massachusetts, is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in molecular biology to join its Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group, specifically the Patent Development and Strategy Subgroup. The ideal candidate should possess strong academic credentials from nationally recognized schools, prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm, and transferable skills. Preference will be given to candidates with registration with the USPTO and an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences). Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, and/or trademark matters is preferred.

Duties:

• Conducting patent searches and analyzing prior art
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to molecular biology technologies
• Providing strategic counsel on patent development and portfolio management
• Collaborating with attorneys and clients to develop patent strategies
• Conducting patent due diligence reviews for corporate transactions
• Providing opinions on patentability, validity, and infringement issues
• Assisting with patent litigation matters as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or a related field
• Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• 2-5 years of experience in patent prosecution and portfolio management
• Prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm is preferred
• Strong academic background from a nationally recognized school
• Advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in molecular and cellular biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences)
• Background in life sciences, particularly biotechnology, is preferred

Education:

Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or a related field

Certifications:

Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
