The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office in the field of life sciences, with a focus on molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. This position also involves performing prior art searches, patentability analysis, IP due diligence, and client relationship development.

Job Details:

  • Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Conducting prior art searches and analysis to assess patentability and novelty.
  • Engaging in IP due diligence to support client needs.
  • Participating in practice development activities to establish and maintain client relationships.
  • Preparing substantive client correspondence related to patent matters.
  • Providing instructions to local counsel for foreign filings and handling Office Actions.
  • Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects.
  • Applying advanced concepts in the life sciences field, with expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.
  • Studying and analyzing scientific and technical documents, including previously published patent documents.
  • Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications.
  • Converting foreign-filed applications into U.S. applications and vice versa.

Requirements:

  • Hold an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a biological field, such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Engineering, with excellent academic credentials.
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience as a practicing patent agent in the field of life sciences.
  • Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
