Job Overview

A respected law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with substantial experience in patent prosecution, particularly in the life sciences sector. This role involves close collaboration with attorneys and patent counsel across a variety of technical disciplines, supporting a diverse range of intellectual property matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background and proven ability to navigate complex IP challenges in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or related industries.

Location

Duties

• Evaluate the patentability of innovations across diverse technology areas

• Prepare, draft, and file U.S. patent applications

• Prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate international filings with foreign counsel

• Assist with IP due diligence projects and strategic patent portfolio management

• Conduct legal and technical research related to patent and IP matters

• Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and internal teams on IP strategy

• Serve as a liaison for internal initiatives and engage regularly with external counsel

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate setting

• Primary focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies

• Experience with mechanical or electrical patent prosecution is advantageous

• Familiarity with international patent prosecution processes

Education

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology)

Certifications

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar in the near term
