Job Overview: A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney with 1-3 years of experience to practice Environmental and Land Use Law in Northern California. This position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment focused on sustainable development and public interest advocacy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in complex legal issues, represent clients in various legal forums, and contribute to a diverse and inclusive team. This is a hybrid remote position based in either South San Francisco or Sacramento, California.

Duties:

  • Conduct factual investigations and legal research to support case development.
  • Collaborate with supervising attorneys and professional staff on legal and regulatory issues.
  • Participate in brief writing, motion practice, and oral advocacy.
  • Represent clients before federal and state regulatory bodies, municipalities, and local government agencies.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and litigation.
  • Work with scientists and technical experts to develop comprehensive legal strategies.
  • Participate in regulatory proceedings, rulemaking, and legislative hearings.
  • Travel for casework, seminars, hearings, and client meetings as required.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of substantive experience in California environmental and land use law.
  • Strong desire to advocate for sustainable development and community benefits.
  • Commitment to public interest work and environmental protection.
  • Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and good judgment in legal matters.
  • Ability to work in a collegial, diverse, and inclusive team environment.
  • Willingness to travel for legal work and client needs.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar membership.

Certifications:

  • California Bar license in good standing.

  • Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for client interactions and teamwork.
