A law firm in Richmond, VA, is looking for a Local Government Law Attorney. This role is responsible for providing legal support to towns, counties, and cities across the state of Virginia in various practice areas. The ideal candidate should possess a Virginia Bar license, have 3-5 years of litigation and/or general counsel experience with localities or school districts, and demonstrate excellent client service and communication skills. Strong organizational skills and a background in the public sector or local government practice are preferred. The ability to travel within Virginia to attend local government meetings is also required.

Job Duties:

  • Offer legal counsel and representation to towns, counties, and cities across Virginia in a wide range of practice areas.
  • Provide litigation services and act as general counsel for localities or school districts, addressing legal issues and representing clients in court.
  • Conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and provide legal advice to clients.
  • Attend and participate in local government meetings and collaborate with local officials to address legal matters.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, offering excellent client service and communication.
  • Handle legal matters with a focus on public sector and local government practices.
  • Stay informed about changes in laws, regulations, and developments impacting local government clients.

Job Requirements:

  • Active Virginia Bar license.
  • 3-5 years of litigation and/or general counsel experience with localities or school districts.
  • Excellent client service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A background in the public sector or local government practice is preferred.
  • The ability to travel within Virginia to attend local government meetings is required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
