A law firm in Washington D.C. is seeking an experienced International Trade Associate Attorney (Customs) with a strong background in customs and import controls laws. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of relevant experience to support the firm's International Trade practice.

 

Duties:

  • Advise and counsel clients on customs and import controls matters, including tariff classification, valuation and transfer pricing, audits, forced labor compliance, and customs enforcement of antidumping and countervailing duty orders.
  • Manage related projects effectively, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
  • Provide expertise in free trade agreements and related rules of origin, fraud and penalty investigations, binding rulings, customs litigation, and customs enforcement of other agency requirements (e.g., EPA, NHTSA, F&WS), customs legislation, and/or drawback.

 

Requirements:

  • Substantial experience in customs and import controls laws.
  • Stellar academic credentials.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience supporting International Trade practice.
  • Experience in federal government at U.S. Customs & Border Protection or Homeland Security Investigations preferred.
  • Private sector and/or government experience in customs and import controls laws required.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the Washington D.C. Bar (or ability to waive in).

 

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of laws and policies governing customs and import controls.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
