Job Title: Mid-Level Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A San Diego-based law firm known for serving public entities, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations is seeking a mid-level litigation associate to contribute to its labor and employment litigation team. The position involves hands-on case management, significant client interaction, and the opportunity to work on complex matters across wage and hour, PAGA, and FLSA-related disputes. This role provides a hybrid work structure, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.

Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with key witnesses

  • Manage all stages of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests

  • Handle depositions, including preparation, taking, and defending

  • Argue motions and appear regularly in court proceedings

  • Prepare case strategies and manage litigation timelines

  • Draft dispositive motions, such as:

    • Demurrers

    • Anti-SLAPP motions

    • Motions for judgment on the pleadings

    • Motions for summary judgment

  • Engage in settlement discussions, mediation, and pre-trial preparations

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in California

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience focused on employment law matters

  • Demonstrated experience with wage and hour, PAGA, and FLSA claims

  • Strong oral advocacy and legal writing abilities

  • Familiarity with managing multiple active cases

  • Prior exposure to public sector clients is considered advantageous

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • California State Bar admission is required

Skills:

  • Effective legal research and analytical skills

  • Confident courtroom demeanor

  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills

  • Ability to work independently and within collaborative teams

  • Strategic thinking with attention to litigation risk and resolution options
