Job Overview:
A well-established law firm based in Columbia, SC, is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Associate Attorney with prior experience in workers' compensation defense. This role involves representing a diverse range of clients, including insurers, employers, and claims administrators, throughout all stages of workers’ compensation proceedings. The position is primarily office-based in Columbia, SC, but consideration will be given to qualified candidates residing elsewhere within South Carolina.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in workers' compensation matters, including hearings, depositions, mediations, and appeals

  • Handle a full litigation caseload from initiation through resolution

  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence

  • Participate in discovery, including depositions of parties and expert witnesses

  • Provide strategic advice and case evaluations to clients

  • Coordinate with third-party administrators and employer representatives

  • Negotiate settlements and manage subrogation-related issues

Requirements:

  • Active and good standing membership with the South Carolina Bar

  • Demonstrated experience in workers’ compensation litigation

  • Familiarity with procedural rules and case law specific to South Carolina

  • Proven ability to manage time and deadlines across a caseload

  • Comfortable leveraging legal technology and case management systems

  • High attention to detail and organizational capabilities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice in South Carolina (mandatory)
