Job Overview:
An established law firm is seeking a highly experienced Employee Benefits Partner to join its practice. This role involves providing legal counsel in all areas of employee benefits law, including retirement and welfare plans, executive compensation, and benefits-related aspects of business transactions. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, significant experience with ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, and a client-focused approach. This is a strategic role with an opportunity for leadership and business development within a growing team.

Location:

  • Albany, NY

Duties:

  • Counsel clients on the design, implementation, and maintenance of retirement, welfare, and executive compensation plans

  • Draft and review plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and administrative service agreements

  • Provide legal support during mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and drafting of purchase agreements

  • Advise on executive compensation matters, including compliance with 409A, 280G, and securities regulations

  • Prepare and revise legal documents including shareholder agreements, operating agreements, and M&A contracts

  • Collaborate with cross-functional legal teams to provide integrated client solutions

  • Engage in business development by leveraging existing relationships and identifying new client opportunities

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience practicing employee benefits law

  • Deep understanding of ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code

  • Experience handling compliance issues for executive compensation, qualified retirement, and welfare benefit plans

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactional and regulatory issues

  • Proven success in client development and practice growth

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal drafting and analytical skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across legal practice areas

  • Strategic mindset with a client-service orientation
