Job Overview: A law firm specializing in intellectual property law is seeking a skilled Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join their team in Sunnyvale, CA. The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years of legal experience focusing on IP, particularly drafting and patent prosecution. Candidates with a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or related fields are preferred, with additional consideration given to those with design engineering experience, particularly within a chip company environment. Familiarity with networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, or similar technologies is highly desired. Admission to the USPTO is a requirement, and bar licensure in California is a plus.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution activities, including drafting applications, responding to office actions, and managing patent portfolios.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other legal professionals to ensure the quality and accuracy of patent applications.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on patentability, infringement, and validity issues.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide strategic legal advice.
  • Assist with IP-related transactions, such as licensing agreements and due diligence investigations.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting intellectual property rights.

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of legal experience, focusing on intellectual property law.
  • Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Admission to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
