A law firm in Philadelphia is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate Attorney to work directly with the Tax Controversy and Litigation Department Practice Group Leader and the Managing Shareholder. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of practical experience with federal tax controversy disputes, including audits, appeals, and litigation, with expertise in substantive federal income tax issues. Experience with corporate and partnership tax matters is a plus. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent academic and employment credentials are required. A degree in accounting, CPA license, or LL.M. in Tax is helpful, and admission to practice in at least one state, with Pennsylvania admission being a plus, is required.

 

Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Tax Controversy and Litigation Department Practice Group Leader and the Managing Shareholder on federal tax controversy matters.
  • Handle audits, appeals, and litigation related to federal tax disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on substantive federal income tax issues.
  • Assist with corporate and partnership tax matters, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare written documents, including legal memoranda, briefs, and correspondence.
  • Participate in meetings, hearings, and negotiations related to tax controversy matters.

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in federal tax controversy matters.
  • Practical experience with audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Knowledge of substantive federal income tax issues.
  • Experience with corporate and partnership tax matters (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent academic and employment credentials.
  • Admission to practice in at least one state (Pennsylvania admission preferred).
  • Experience with law firms, accounting firms, IRS, Tax Court, or Department of Justice (Tax Division) (preferred).

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (JD) required.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or degree in Accounting (helpful).

 

Certifications:

CPA license (helpful).
