Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a qualified and experienced Patent Agent to join its team in Wilmington, NC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Organic Chemistry, and should have at least 2 years of in-house or law firm patent prosecution experience. The role requires admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and outstanding academic credentials. The Patent Agent will play a crucial role in managing patent-related tasks, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and contributing to the success of the Firm.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution, including drafting and filing patent applications
  • Collaborate with attorneys and inventors to gather necessary information for patent filings
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches
  • Provide technical and legal support in patent litigation matters
  • Stay abreast of developments in patent law and industry trends
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the firm's patent portfolio
  • Manage and maintain client relationships related to patent matters

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of in-house or law firm patent prosecution experience
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering (B.S.), Chemistry (Ph.D.), and/or Organic Chemistry (Ph.D)
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Excellent academic credentials

Education:

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Ph.D. in Chemistry, or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
