Job Overview: A law firm in Durham, NC, is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Patent Agent with a background in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Organic Chemistry. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of in-house or law firm patent prosecution experience, possess strong academic credentials, and be admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Duties:

  • Conduct patent searches and analyses to assess patentability and freedom to operate.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, including preparing responses to office actions.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to gather necessary information for patent filings.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance on intellectual property matters.
  • Stay abreast of changes in patent laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of in-house or law firm patent prosecution experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (B.S.), Chemistry (Ph.D.), and/or Organic Chemistry (Ph.D).
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Excellent academic credentials.

Education:

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
