A law firm in San Francisco is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will primarily engage in regulatory counseling and drafting related to federal and state consumer lending laws, with a focus on compliance counseling for lenders, servicers, and consumer reporting agencies. Expertise in consumer finance, including advising bank and non-bank financial institutions, negotiating contracts, and interpreting regulatory requirements, is essential.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily focused on federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with regulations such as the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and provide guidance to clients accordingly.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Solid background in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Proficiency in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Specific experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act preferred.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.
