A law firm in San Diego is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate should effectively communicate with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties both verbally and in writing. They must produce high-quality work products, meet deadlines, and comply with firm policies. Experience in patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence is required. The candidate should possess transferable skills, strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools, and prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm. A degree in chemical engineering or chemistry, a J.D., and admission to the USPTO are necessary.

 

Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and third parties verbally and in writing
  • Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence efficiently
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product
  • Meet deadlines and expectations for work duties
  • Foster positive work relationships
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices
  • Engage in physical and sedentary activities such as computer work and digital/virtual conference calls
  • Perform patent prosecution, client counseling, and drafting patent applications
  • Conduct freedom to operate opinions and due diligence
  • Handle all other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Transferable skills and strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools
  • Prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • J.D. degree
  • License to practice law in the state
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

 

Certifications:

  • License to practice law in the state
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
