The law firm is seeking a Mid-level Patent Agent to join its team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, possess solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience, and excel in both written and verbal communication.

 

Duties:

  • Conducting patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of electrical engineering, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), machine learning/artificial intelligence, and hardware security.
  • Collaborating with inventors, attorneys, and clients to understand and articulate complex technical concepts.
  • Analyzing and interpreting patent-related documents, including prior art, to support patent prosecution efforts.
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Admission to the USPTO is required.
  • 4+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Patent prosecution in electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
  • Experience in data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), machine learning/artificial intelligence, and hardware security.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and research skills for patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Collaboration and interpersonal skills for working with inventors, attorneys, and clients.
  • Technical proficiency in electrical engineering, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies, machine learning/artificial intelligence, and hardware security.
