Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Biology, preferably holding a Ph.D., and possess experience working in a law firm setting as well as a background as a scientist. The primary responsibilities will include drafting patent applications, managing domestic and international dockets, and preparing responses to Office Actions. The Patent Agent will also correspond with foreign associates, formulate search strategies, and analyze patents for various legal purposes.

Duties:

• Drafting patent applications
• Managing domestic and international dockets
• Preparing Responses to Office Actions
• Corresponding with foreign associates
• Formulating search strategies
• Analyzing patents in connection with due diligence or freedom to operate analyses
• Evaluating patentable subject matter
• Performing any other duties as necessary and as assigned by your supervisor for the efficient functioning of the Department, Office, and Firm

Requirements:

• Advanced degree in Biology, PhD preferred
• Registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Prior work experience in a law firm
• Prior experience as a scientist strongly preferred
