Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking experienced mid- to senior-level Trusts & Estates Associate Attorneys to join its national Private Client Services Group across several office locations. The role involves sophisticated estate and tax planning, family office structuring, and trust administration for high-net-worth individuals and families. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys with a strong transactional background in estate planning and a commitment to delivering strategic, client-centered solutions.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Advise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax matters

  • Develop and implement sophisticated estate plans and family office structures

  • Administer, decant, and modify complex trusts

  • Provide planning strategies involving business interests, art, and other special assets

  • Draft estate planning documents and related transactional materials

  • Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups and jurisdictions

Requirements:

  • 2 to 8 years of relevant transactional experience in trust and estate planning

  • Proven experience advising high-net-worth individuals and families

  • Strong academic background

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant state(s) where the position is based

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of federal and state estate and gift tax laws

  • Proficiency in drafting and implementing complex planning instruments

  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships and matters efficiently

  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail

  • Effective client communication and interpersonal skills
