Patent Agent

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Wilmington. The Patent Agent will play a crucial role in supporting patent attorneys by assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The successful candidate will collaborate with inventors on new products, identify patentable inventions, and conduct research on current patented technologies. The role involves drafting patent applications, tracking the application process, completing ability searches, responding to office actions, and consistently meeting billable hour requirements. The ideal candidate should have 1 year of professional experience, with a preference for those with 2+ years of experience.

Duties:

• Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
• Collaborate with inventors on newly created products.
• Identify patentable inventions through thorough research.
• Draft patent applications with the support of the patent team.
• Track the patent application process from initial filing to granted patent.
• Conduct regular ability searches to support patent work.
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs.
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements.
• Provide suggestions and prioritize day-to-day problems.
• Share information and keep the team informed about progress and challenges.
• Give positive and constructive feedback to peers and train new employees.
• Attend required training and accept planned changes willingly.
• Work collaboratively as a team member, understanding team goals and diversity and inclusion values.
• Demonstrate awareness and consistency with the Firm's values.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
• Preferably a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
• USPTO Registration is required.

Experience:

• 1 year of professional experience.
• Preferably 2+ years of experience.
