Job Overview: A law firm in Atlanta, GA, seeks a motivated Patent Agent with 2-6 years of legal experience specializing in intellectual property (IP) law. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with specific experience in drafting and patent prosecution. Design engineering experience within a chip company and expertise in networking, software, and 3G/4G/5G wireless networks are highly desirable.

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Conduct patentability and prior art searches.
  • Assist in patent prosecution proceedings before the USPTO.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to assess inventions and determine patent strategies.
  • Conduct patent landscape analyses and freedom-to-operate searches.
  • Stay updated with relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends in intellectual property.

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of legal experience.
  • Experience in intellectual property law, specifically in drafting and patent prosecution.
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus.
  • Familiarity with networking, software, and 3G/4G/5G wireless networks preferred.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.
  • Bar licensure in California is advantageous.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as a Patent Agent.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and legal documents.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with patent database software and other relevant tools.
