Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced IP Biotechnology Patent Agent to join its national Intellectual Property Department's Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for patent counseling, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications in biotechnology. 

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in biotechnology and related fields.

  • Prepare and provide patent opinions in biotechnology or similar technologies.

  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic guidance on patent-related matters.

  • Collaborate with team members on intellectual property strategies.

  • Communicate complex technical and legal issues to clients effectively.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution.

  • Must have strong legal writing and research skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields.

  • Prior experience in preparing patent opinions is preferred.

  • Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • PhD in biological sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics), Chemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in biotechnology and related fields.

  • Excellent legal writing and research skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
