GrayRobinson today announced Byron Flagg has joined the firm’s Real Estate and Land Use Section as of counsel in his hometown of Gainesville, Fla. Flagg will provide counsel on land use, environmental, and real estate issues for local governments, individuals, and business entities throughout the state of Florida.

Flagg is extremely knowledgeable on Florida land use and environmental issues especially in the North Central Florida Region. He brings in-depth experience in land use development and zoning analysis, environmental due diligence review, and state agency permitting. Co-author of “Boating, Waterways, and the Rights of Navigation in Florida,” Flagg has also advised coastal communities across Florida on navigational rights issues. He has previously served as outside counsel to several Florida municipalities and most recently served as conservation land negotiator with Alachua Conservation Trust where he played an integral part in negotiating Alachua County’s purchase of nearly 12,000 acres of publicly held conservation land and conservation easements. Flagg was also an Assistant State Attorney under Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Cervone from 2005 to 2010.

Flagg received his Masters of Law in Environmental and Land Use Law from the University of Florida (UF) Levin College of Law, his Juris Doctor from UF Levin College of Law, and his Bachelor of Science in Public Relations with a concentration in Political Science from UF College of Journalism and Communications. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves and was a part of the 9/11 response team, and was involved with port security operations in Florida and Georgia. Flagg is admitted to practice law in Florida, the Eighth Judicial Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Middle and Southern District of Florida.
