Rhapsody plans to acquire Napster under advice of Perkins Coie, Dorsey & Whitney
Best Buy plans to sell Napster, the company whose name is synonymous with online music sharing, to on-demand music site Rhapsody. The acquisition is expected to be closed by November 30. Perkins Coie is advising Rhapsody on the deal. Dorsey & Whitney corporate partner John Marsalek is representing Minn.-based Best Buy on the Napster sale, together with associate general counsel Todd Hartman and corporate counsel Eric Halverson. Best Buy hired a team of lawyers led by business group chair John Houston of Robins, Kaplan, and Miller & Ciresi for outside counsel on its acquisition of Napster from digital media company Roxio, 3 years ago.
