Piper Rudnick involved in major merger
Piper Rudnick and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich will merge by year's end and will thereafter be known as Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Its stature will expand to include 1,300 attorneys across 20 offices. It will become the sixth-largest firm, based on revenue. Gray Cary's current clients will now be closer to major financial centers. New York Times, 10/19/04

Charles Jacobs to lead Nixon Peabody's Private Equity Team
Charles Jacobs has been appointed head of Nixon Peabody's Private Equity Team. As part of the deal, he will have to move freely between the firm's locations in New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Jacobs had previously been on the Management Committee and chaired the Business Department. Jacobs, who often speaks at industry conferences, has more than 15 years' experience in this arena.
