This firm is fairly large nationally, with a mid-sized Boston office. The practice in the Boston office is fairly similar to that of the firm nationwide: good labor and employment work, health care, and general corporate and securities work. The attorneys here do complain that they occasionally feel a bit like a franchise, not seeing a good deal of overall unity. Nonetheless, the Boston and New York offices are fairly well connected and together cover most major practice areas. The advantages here are practice areas that get high points for interest from associates. That being said, these practice areas, like employment defense, are not big revenue drivers. Therefore, the salaries here are decidedly less than the big firm market, although not below market in general.1 2018-07-16 17:38:24

Dare we say that this mid-sized Boston firm is fun? But truthfully, it is. A full service firm with modest but comfortable offices has some of the most interesting attorneys around. With impressive achievement both inside and outside of the office, these attorneys excel at young ages. For instance, one young lawyer is taking a leadership role in a Boston CLE program. Another is heading a prominent and fun community program. And, importantly, both are valued by the leadership of the firm for their contributions. Interesting clientele have followed, including notable sports teams and Fortune 500s. We believe the best practice areas are bankruptcy and creditor's rights and construction, which will continue to be busy over the next several months and years.2 2017-05-17 04:19:38

This large Boston firm has a surprisingly good government and regulatory practice, with the added bonus that their attorneys do not have to split their work with Washington DC lawyers in the same practice. This is a firm made up of well-rounded but most certainly well-pedigreed attorneys who come off unusually polished and professional. Associates here are generally quite satisfied, if not a little put off by what at times can be a bit of a competitive environment, both inside and outside the office. The strengths are that associates generally know whether they are 'on track' to make partner, and work in an environment that is designed with the appropriate mentoring and support staff to help associate development and training along.1 2017-09-15 18:57:05

In many ways, this large Massachusetts firm is defined by the interplay between the century-old institution and the younger, more aggressive management. Although this firm could have been accused of resting on its laurels for a time, having developed one of the largest and most recognized practices in the region, this firm is now much more proactive in management and long term planning. With historically strong real estate and environmental practices, this large firm is now focusing on its intellectual property and technology capabilities. So too are the partners focusing on associate life, which may have gone by the wayside until recently. Associates now working in these traditional offices are generally happy with this firm's progress into the 21st century.2 2017-07-06 19:17:31

Although this firm bills itself out as full service, it is in fact a well-diversified technology boutique. This medium-sized office is happy to handle corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transactions, but generally only for clients who originally came to the firm for the 'pure' intellectual property practice--patent prosecution, litigation, and trademark work. With more non-specialists than most intellectual property firms, the environment here is much more entrepreneurial and business minded than some practices we've seen. And, despite an institutional mentoring program, associates here are trained with early responsibility and the need for each attorney to work on large client files, regardless of that attorney's practice area. Good salary and down to earth partners have kept associates here since the days of their summer clerkship--a pretty remarkable feat.1 2018-06-27 00:50:16
