This law deals with laws that relate to censorship or regulation of (usually) obscene material. These are generally around pornography or material deemed improper by the legal standards of child pornography or indecency.

Because of the vagueness of obscenity law, it restricts freedom of expression or freedom of speech, raising the question of whether or not censorship laws enacted to combat obscenity protect people. Throughout most of the last century, many states in America have placed limits on the sale and dissemination of "obscene" materials, but defining what constitutes obscenity is extremely difficult.

The definition of obscenity will vary from one location to another. This will inevitably lead to complications and should be avoided.
