Patent Agent needed for Austin office

A law firm located in Austin, TX, is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in chemical engineering or software. The Patent Agent will be responsible for preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, conducting research and analysis, and providing guidance on various patent and IP-related matters.

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
• Conduct research, analysis, and guidance on patent and IP-related issues
• Draft patent applications and responses to USPTO communications
• Assist in due diligence matters
• Prepare draft responses to communications from US and foreign patent offices
• Stay current on patent prosecution issues and trends through continuing education
• Investigate general and specific technologies as required
• Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions
• Identify and analyze complex patent issues, proposing solutions
• Act as a liaison between inventors and the USPTO

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, software, or electrical engineering; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred
• 2-7 years of patent prosecution experience
• Registered to practice before the USPTO
• Strong analytical and interpretive skills
• Knowledge of drafting patent documentation principles, procedures, and standards
• Familiarity with prosecution docketing programs
• Excellent investigative and problem-solving skills
• Up-to-date knowledge of current developments and trends within relevant fields
