A law firm in Salt Lake City is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will primarily handle regulatory counseling and drafting related to federal and state consumer lending laws. This includes expertise in various regulatory acts such as the Truth in Lending Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act. The role requires substantial consumer finance experience, including advising both bank and non-bank financial institutions, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily concerning federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with laws including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and provide guidance to clients accordingly.
  • Conduct thorough research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Strong background in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Proficient in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Preferred experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.
