Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a talented mid-level tax associate to join its Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. Duties:

  • Provide legal expertise in partnership tax, with a strong focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Work closely with developers, both for-profit and nonprofit, on a variety of affordable housing projects, including development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale.
  • Assist clients in navigating federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Draft and review legal documents and agreements related to tax credits and housing programs.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to address complex legal and regulatory matters.
  • Offer strategic advice to clients on tax planning and structuring for affordable housing transactions.
  • Manage multiple client projects while ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and compliance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in guiding junior associates and paralegals.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in partnership tax, with a focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Strong background in accounting with proficiency in tax-related legal matters.
  • Detailed-oriented with exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and meet deadlines effectively.
  • A member in good standing of the Maryland State Bar (or eligible to become a member).

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting (preferred).
  • LLM in Taxation (preferred).

Certifications:

  • Maryland State Bar membership is in good standing.

Skills:

  • Expertise in partnership taxation and federal income tax credits.
  • Strong drafting and legal writing skills.
  • High proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to handle complex, multi-faceted tasks.
