A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Edwardsville. The Patent Agent will play a critical role in assisting patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors on newly created products, identify patentable inventions, and research current patented technologies. With a focus on maintaining high-quality patent work, the Patent Agent will be responsible for drafting patent applications, tracking the patent application process, conducting ability searches, and responding to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This role requires meeting billable hour requirements, addressing client challenges, and collaborating effectively within the patent team.

 

Duties:

  • Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors on newly created products.
  • Identify patentable inventions through research and analysis.
  • Draft patent applications with the support of the patent team.
  • Track the patent application process from initiation to granted patent.
  • Conduct ability searches regularly.
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Consistently meet billable hour requirements.
  • Solve client challenges and respond to client needs.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to peers.
  • Train new employees and anticipate future business needs.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Preferably a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • USPTO Registration is required.

 

Certifications:

USPTO Registration.
