Job Overview:
A leading national law firm is seeking a junior associate attorney (1st–4th year) to join its Environmental Practice Group in Salt Lake City. The ideal candidate will have experience with environmental regulatory compliance, enforcement matters, and a strong interest in environmental law as it intersects with corporate transactions, restructuring, and/or litigation. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge legal issues and develop within a high-performing, collaborative legal team.

Location:

  • Salt Lake City, Utah

Duties:

  • Advise clients on federal and state environmental regulatory compliance and enforcement

  • Support transactions and restructuring matters involving environmental liabilities

  • Assist with environmental due diligence in mergers, acquisitions, and financings

  • Participate in environmental litigation and/or administrative proceedings when needed

  • Research and analyze complex environmental statutes and regulatory frameworks

  • Draft legal memoranda, correspondence, and regulatory filings

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys across practice groups on environmental and cross-disciplinary matters

Requirements:

  • 1 to 4 years of relevant experience in environmental regulatory law

  • Background in administrative law and/or restructuring is a plus

  • Exposure to environmental litigation and liabilities preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in environmental law and policy

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited, top-tier law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or eligibility for admission)

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA)

  • Legal research and analytical writing proficiency

  • Familiarity with environmental compliance, risk assessment, and enforcement procedures

  • Clear and persuasive communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
