A law firm in Boston, MA, is seeking a Senior Associate Attorney with 7+ years of experience in zoning and land use matters, particularly those related to Boston. The ideal candidate will work on various Boston land use and zoning projects, including Article 80 large and small project reviews, planned development areas, exceptions, conditional use permits, variances, landmark designations, MEPA reviews, and Chapter 91 licensure. Strong academic credentials are preferred, and prior experience working with the BPDA (Boston Planning & Development Agency) and other Boston agencies and boards is required. Applicants must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in a range of Boston land use and zoning matters, including Article 80 large and small project reviews, planned development areas, exceptions, conditional use permits, and variances.
  • Handle designations and alterations of landmark buildings and districts in Boston.
  • Assist with MEPA (Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act) reviews and Chapter 91 licensure.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on land use and zoning issues.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support clients' cases.
  • Prepare, review, and draft legal documents, contracts, and agreements.
  • Engage in negotiations and communication with clients, Boston agencies, and other relevant parties.
  • Attend meetings, hearings, and proceedings to represent clients' interests.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in zoning and land use matters with a strong focus on Boston projects.
  • Strong academic record preferred.
  • Experience working with the BPDA and other Boston agencies and boards is required.
  • Admission to the Massachusetts Bar is mandatory.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Massachusetts Bar in good standing.
