IP Litigation Associate

Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a skilled Intellectual Property Litigation Associate with 2–4 years of patent litigation experience to join its expanding IP Litigation and Technology groups. This role offers the opportunity to work with high-performing trial attorneys on complex, high-stakes patent disputes and PTAB proceedings. The position provides hands-on litigation responsibility, direct client engagement, and close mentorship from senior litigators. It is open to candidates in multiple major U.S. markets, with a preference for placement in Houston, TX.

Location:

• Irvine, CA

Duties:

• Manage document production and review in complex IP litigation matters

• Conduct discovery meet-and-confers and handle all phases of pre-trial discovery

• Take and defend depositions, including expert and fact witnesses

• Collaborate with technical experts to prepare expert reports

• Draft legal memoranda, dispositive motions, and trial briefs

• Participate in inter partes reviews and other PTAB trial proceedings

• Work closely with senior attorneys and clients in both U.S. and international litigation

Requirements:

• 2–4 years of patent litigation experience at a law firm or IP boutique

• Experience managing different phases of IP litigation and trial prep

• Familiarity with PTAB proceedings is considered a plus

• Desire for hands-on litigation experience and accelerated development

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the bar in the jurisdiction of the chosen office location (Texas bar preferred for Houston applicants)

• USPTO registration preferred

Skills:

• Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills

• Strong academic credentials

• Technical background preferred in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering/software discipline

• Collaborative mindset with the ability to manage complex case responsibilities independently

• Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to client service
