Job Overview:

A prominent law firm is seeking an International Trade Associate Attorney with 2–3 years of focused experience in customs and import controls to join its Washington, D.C. office. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in U.S. customs law and policies, including tariff classification, valuation, trade enforcement, and regulatory compliance. This position offers a sophisticated platform for attorneys committed to growing their international trade practice in a collaborative, future-focused environment.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. customs and import control regulations

  • Conduct legal analysis on tariff classification, valuation, transfer pricing, and related customs issues

  • Support clients during customs audits, investigations, and enforcement actions

  • Counsel on forced labor compliance and supply chain transparency requirements

  • Assist with matters involving antidumping and countervailing duty enforcement

  • Prepare legal arguments and represent clients in customs litigation and penalty investigations

  • Draft submissions for binding rulings and administrative reviews

  • Advise on the impact of free trade agreements, rules of origin, and drawback provisions

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies including CBP, EPA, NHTSA, and FWS

  • Monitor and interpret legislative developments related to trade and customs law

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of legal experience in customs and import controls law

  • Familiarity with enforcement procedures, regulatory compliance, and cross-border trade mechanisms

  • Previous private practice or government agency experience focused on international trade is strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal and regulatory matters

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Outstanding academic credentials required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. customs laws and trade policy

  • Exceptional legal research, analytical, and drafting skills

  • Ability to interpret and apply agency regulations, including CBP and partner government agency rules

  • Strong written and verbal communication, including policy advocacy

  • Client-focused with a collaborative and service-oriented mindset

  • Ability to thrive in a team environment with a commitment to excellence and inclusion
