A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Longshore Defense Base Act Associate Attorney to join their Workers' Compensation practice group. The candidate will handle complex defense cases under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and the Defense Base Act. This role requires a proactive approach to case management, exceptional research and writing skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues. The ideal candidate will have some experience in workers' compensation law, with specific knowledge related to longshore and defense base act claims.

Duties:

  • Serve as a workers' compensation associate attorney specializing in Longshore and Defense Base Act cases.
  • Conduct thorough file analysis and case evaluations to develop effective litigation strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing detailed reports and updates on case progress.
  • Develop and implement a discovery plan, prepare written discovery requests, and manage the collection of necessary documentation.
  • Take and defend depositions of witnesses and experts, ensuring comprehensive preparation and effective questioning.
  • Draft legal documents, including appeals, trial briefs, motions, and memorandums of law, demonstrating strong legal writing skills.
  • Represent clients in hearings and trials, advocating effectively to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and staff to ensure alignment of case strategies and legal practices.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in California.
  • Preferably some experience in workers' compensation law, particularly with Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and Defense Base Act cases.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively presenting information and responding to clients and colleagues.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) required.

Certifications:

  • Active member in good standing of the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of workers' compensation laws and procedures.
  • Exceptional legal writing and research capabilities.
