Estate Planning Attorney

Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in Sacramento, California, is seeking a talented and client-focused estate planning attorney to join its dynamic team. This role involves face-to-face client interaction, the development of customized estate plans, and participation in regular team meetings. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in estate law, an analytical mind, and a strong desire to help clients structure their legacies with confidence. This position requires a full-time, in-office presence.

Duties:

  • Conduct consultations with new and returning clients to gather essential information and deliver personalized estate planning strategies

  • Assess clients’ current estate documents and provide updates or enhancement options as needed

  • Present and explain planning fees and manage engagement logistics

  • Draft and finalize engagement agreements, with in-person or electronic signatures

  • Process payments and manage initial documentation such as intake forms and design templates

  • Oversee estate planning tasks and workflow through internal systems such as Lawcus and Asana

  • Carefully review draft estate plans to ensure alignment with client intentions and planning strategies

  • Guide clients through the final plan, clarifying its structure, function, and key provisions

  • Identify and refer appropriate opportunities to affiliated financial advisors, and manage associated disclosures

  • Respond promptly to client calls and email correspondence

  • Maintain detailed records and notes from meetings and phone interactions

  • Participate in regular attorney roundtables and advanced planning meetings for case discussion and legal strategy refinement

  • Attend recurring departmental and firm-wide staff meetings

  • Support various ad hoc projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in the State of California

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in estate planning law

  • Familiarity with California probate, trust law, and related tax implications (income, gift, and estate tax)

  • Strong communication and client service orientation

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a structured team environment

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

  • Proficiency in legal task management and workflow software (e.g., Lawcus, Asana)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Completion of relevant estate planning coursework preferred

Certifications:

  • California State Bar certification required

  • Specialist certification in Trust, Wills & Probate preferred

  • Active Notary Public status is a plus

Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities

  • Professional etiquette in meetings and phone interactions

  • Strong proofreading and editing capabilities

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills

  • Detail-oriented with an ability to manage multiple cases efficiently
