Patent Agent needed for Jefferson City office

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Jefferson City. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors on new products, assist in identifying patentable inventions, and draft patent applications. They will also conduct research on patented technologies and track the patent application process. The successful candidate should have a background in electrical engineering or biotechnology and prior experience in patent law.

Job Overview:

• Work closely with inventors on newly created products
• Identify patentable inventions and assist in drafting patent applications
• Research current patented technologies to best assist clients
• Track the patent application process from initial filing to granted patent
• Conduct ability searches regularly
• Respond to client challenges and needs promptly
• Handle office actions and correspondence with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Meet billable hour requirements consistently
• Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications

Duties:

• Work hand-in-hand with inventors on newly created products
• Assist in the identification of patentable inventions
• Research current patented technologies to best assist clients in patentable work
• Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team
• Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent to ensure the team remains on track
• Complete ability searches regularly
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
• Master’s Degree or PhD desired
• USPTO Registration required
• 3+ years of professional experience
• Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology
• Prior experience working in the area of patent law
