Patent Agent

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Chicago. The Patent Agent will play a crucial role in assisting patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. This position involves close collaboration with inventors on newly created products, identification of patentable inventions, and research on current patented technologies. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, with a preference for degrees in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. USPTO Registration is required, and the candidate should have at least 1 year of professional experience, with a preference for 2+ years.

Duties:

• Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
• Work closely with inventors on newly created products.
• Identify patentable inventions and conduct thorough research.
• Draft patent applications with guidance from the patent team.
• Track the patent application process from initiation to granted patent.
• Conduct ability searches regularly and respond to office actions.
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs promptly.
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements.
• Provide suggestions for day-to-day problems and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Maintain confidentiality and share relevant information within the team.
• Provide positive and constructive feedback to peers and contribute to team goals.
• Attend required training sessions and adapt to planned changes willingly.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
• Preferably, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
• USPTO Registration is required.
• 1 year of professional experience, preferably 2+ years.
