Job Overview:

Location:

  • Washington, DC

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences and biotechnology sectors

  • Collaborate with inventors, in-house counsel, and legal teams to develop and implement IP strategies

  • Conduct patentability assessments and prior art searches

  • Draft responses to USPTO Office Actions

  • Stay current on industry developments in AI, computational biology, and related technologies

  • Assist with client counseling and technical writing projects

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge in bioinformatics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, or closely related fields

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and time management

  • Willingness to work in a non-remote, office-based setting

  • Writing samples and academic transcripts required

Education:

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, AI, or a closely related life science or computational field

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration required

  • Attorney candidates must be licensed to practice law in the state corresponding to their primary office location

Skills:

  • In-depth technical knowledge at the intersection of biology and computer science

  • High proficiency in drafting technical patent documents
