Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Traditional Labor Law Associate for its San Diego, CA office. The role involves representing employers in traditional labor matters and providing advice on federal and California workplace laws. The position may also include due diligence for workplace law issues during acquisitions and mergers.

Duties

  • Handle unfair labor practice charges at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
  • Conduct research and writing tasks.
  • Represent management in NLRB elections.
  • Advise employers on union organizing and corporate campaigns.
  • Negotiate and advise on collective bargaining agreements.
  • Manage grievance, arbitration, and unfair labor practice proceedings.
  • Obtain mass picketing injunctions.
  • Advise on wage and hour issues, leave management, and disability accommodations.
  • Review handbooks, policies, and forms for legal compliance.
  • Review compensation, commission, and bonus plans.
  • Conduct management training on labor relations and workplace issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in litigation or advisory work as an attorney.
  • Traditional labor experience preferred.
  • Experience in federal and/or California advice and counsel work preferred.
  • CA Bar Admission required.
  • Understanding of current state and federal agency enforcement techniques preferred.

Education

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • CA Bar Admission.

Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes.
