A law firm in Charlottesville, VA, is seeking a Patent Agent with expertise in Intellectual Property (IP) to join their team. The ideal candidate should have experience in drafting and patent prosecution, with a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or similar fields. Preference will be given to candidates with design engineering experience in a chip company or knowledge in networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, or related areas. The candidate must be admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and have 2-6 years of legal experience.

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications and responses to Office Actions.
  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches and patentability assessments.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and inventors to develop patent strategies.
  • Provide technical support during patent litigation proceedings.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining patent portfolios.

Requirements:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-6 years of legal experience, preferably in patent prosecution.
  • Strong understanding of Intellectual Property laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and Office Action responses.
