Job Title: Patent Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Stamford, CT, is seeking a seasoned Patent Attorney to bolster its Intellectual Property team. The position offers the opportunity to support a diverse range of patent-related activities, particularly within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors. The ideal candidate will contribute to high-level patent strategy, prosecution, and due diligence matters while working closely with colleagues and clients to advance innovation-driven legal solutions.

Duties:

  • Analyze scientific and technical disclosures to assess patent eligibility and strategic value

  • Prepare, draft, and submit U.S. patent applications in life sciences and related fields

  • Manage U.S. patent prosecution matters and coordinate with international agents for global filings

  • Participate in IP portfolio development and patent due diligence initiatives

  • Conduct legal and technical research on complex intellectual property issues

  • Partner with legal peers, clients, and internal teams to shape IP strategy

  • Interface regularly with external legal collaborators and cross-functional business units

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in patent prosecution, preferably in a legal or in-house environment

  • Subject matter expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

  • Admission to a State Bar in good standing

  • Registered or eligible to register before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

  • Exposure to mechanical or electrical parts is considered an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply technical and legal concepts effectively

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities

Education:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology)

Certifications:

  • U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration (active or forthcoming)

  • State Bar Membership

Skills:

  • Deep scientific acumen in life sciences

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical judgment

  • Collaborative mindset with an ability to contribute to multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong legal drafting and patent prosecution proficiency
