Job Overview:

A law firm in Fort Lauderdale, FL, is seeking a qualified and experienced Patent Agent to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a registered practitioner before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with a strong background in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline. The candidate should possess a Ph.D. in the relevant field and have at least 2 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, and related disciplines.
  • Conduct intellectual property (IP) due diligence and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and inventors to identify patentable inventions and gather necessary information for patent applications.
  • Assist in the preparation and prosecution of responses to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Requirements:

  • Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Desirable to have 2 years of experience in a law firm setting.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills (written and oral).

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills:

  • Proficient in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Experience in conducting IP due diligence and FTO analyses.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and inventors.
