A law firm in Washington, D.C. is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to handle cutting-edge software applications, including AI, blockchain, interactive entertainment, and digital media patents. The candidate will collaborate directly with the leader of the AI Team and Blockchain and Fintech Team, among others, requiring self-sufficiency in patent strategy development, patent writing and prosecution, and patent docket management. Strong client interaction skills are necessary for daily patent portfolio management and working closely with clients, inventors, and legal professionals to safeguard intellectual property rights.

 

Duties:

  • Handle patent strategy development, writing, and prosecution for cutting-edge software applications.
  • Manage a patent docket efficiently and effectively.
  • Engage in direct client interaction for patent portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with clients, inventors, and legal professionals to protect intellectual property rights.
  • Assist in matters related to patents, such as licensing, infringement and validity opinions, IP due diligence, and other transactional work.
  • Participate in business development activities related to cutting-edge technology.

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C. and before the USPTO.
  • 3-4 years of patent prosecution experience, preferably with a background in software, computer science, or similar fields.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction and teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage patent dockets effectively.
  • Prior work experience at the US Patent Office is a plus.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Washington, D.C. Bar.
  • Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent strategy development, writing, and prosecution.
  • Strong understanding of software applications, AI, blockchain, and digital media technologies.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to stay updated with advancements in technology and relevant patent laws and regulations.
  • Experience in business development activities is advantageous.
