A law firm in Tampa is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will be responsible for regulatory counseling and drafting primarily related to federal and state consumer lending laws. They will advise on various regulatory frameworks such as the Truth in Lending Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act. The role requires substantial experience in consumer finance, including advising financial institutions, drafting contracts, and interpreting licensing requirements.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily related to federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with regulations including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and provide guidance to clients accordingly.
  • Conduct research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • 5+ years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Significant experience in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Expertise in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Preferred experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.

 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
