A law firm in New York is actively seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a background in electrical engineering or biotechnology and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in patent law. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with patent attorneys, inventors, and the patent team to assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. This role requires a strong ability to identify patentable inventions, conduct thorough ability searches, and track the patent application process from initiation to grant. The Patent Agent will play a key role in solving client challenges, responding to office actions, and maintaining consistent billable hour requirements.

 

Duties:

  • Assist patent attorneys in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors on newly created products.
  • Identify patentable inventions through comprehensive research.
  • Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team.
  • Track the entire patent application process, ensuring the team stays on track.
  • Conduct regular ability searches to support patentability assessments.
  • Solve client challenges and promptly respond to client needs.
  • Correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and address office actions.
  • Provide suggestions to day-to-day problems and prioritize and complete daily tasks effectively.
  • Share information with the team and keep them informed about progress and challenges.
  • Attend required training and embrace planned changes willingly.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • USPTO Registration is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in patent law.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.

 

Certifications:

USPTO Registration.
