Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent with expertise in biotechnology to join its Intellectual Property Department's Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing patent counseling, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, primarily in the biotechnology field. 

Location:

  • Boston, MA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and related fields.

  • Prepare and provide patent opinions in biotechnology or similar technologies.

  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic guidance on patent-related issues.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement intellectual property strategies.

  • Communicate complex technical and legal concepts to clients effectively.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution.

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields.

  • Experience in preparing patent opinions is preferred.

  • Must be registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • PhD in biological sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics), Chemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Strong technical background in biotechnology and related fields.

  • Excellent legal writing and research abilities.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
