Job Overview:
A well-established U.S. law firm is hiring a Senior Associate or Counsel to support its Financial Services practice. This role focuses on regulatory matters involving the Commodity Exchange Act, CFTC oversight, and trading-related legal documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with a high-caliber legal team advising financial and energy market participants on derivatives, compliance, and enforcement issues.

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counsel on the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC rules

  • Advise on compliance, trading, and documentation for derivatives and swaps

  • Draft, review, and negotiate transactional and regulatory agreements

  • Represent clients involved in commodity trading, derivatives markets, and financial services

  • Assist with FERC compliance and enforcement (preferred but not required)

  • Work collaboratively with a cross-practice, cross-jurisdictional legal team

Requirements:

  • 5–10 years of experience in financial services regulation

  • Advanced understanding of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC market framework

  • Experience with derivatives and swaps documentation

  • Familiarity with FERC enforcement in energy and power markets (preferred)

  • Proven ability to handle high-stakes regulatory matters

  • Strong client management and collaborative capabilities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing, analysis, and negotiation abilities

  • Expertise in regulatory frameworks applicable to trading markets

  • Ability to manage sophisticated legal projects and support high-volume transactions

  • Strategic problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-facing legal environment
