Job Overview:

A respected boutique law firm in Portland, Maine is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney with 2–3 years of experience in estate planning and tax law to join its practice. The firm is known for its high-quality work in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and related areas of tax law. Location:

  • Portland, Maine

Duties:

  • Advise clients on estate planning and wealth preservation strategies

  • Prepare and review estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, and related instruments

  • Assist with the administration of trusts and estates

  • Draft and review estate tax, gift tax, and fiduciary income tax returns

  • Conduct legal research and write memos on relevant tax and estate planning matters

  • Collaborate with attorneys, a CPA, and support staff on complex planning matters

  • Participate in client meetings and assist in managing client relationships

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of experience in estate planning, trust and estate administration, or tax law

  • Strong interest in developing a long-term practice in Maine

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a small, highly focused legal team

  • Excellent judgment and attention to detail

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality client service

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • LLM in Taxation (preferred but not required)

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Maine Bar preferred

  • Candidates licensed in another jurisdiction may be considered, with support for admission to the Maine Bar provided
