A law firm in San Francisco is seeking a Junior to Mid-level Associate Attorney with a focus on patent preparation and prosecution in the field of electrical engineering or computer science. The attorney will be responsible for patent preparation and prosecution, with a particular emphasis on electrical engineering or computer science. The successful candidate will possess a strong academic background, relevant industry experience, and exceptional communication skills. Admission to the USPTO and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree are mandatory.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent searches and analyze prior art to determine patentability.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Provide legal advice on intellectual property matters.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on patent issues.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients to understand technology and innovation.

 

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the USPTO.
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Solid academic achievement in law school and undergraduate studies.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in patent prosecution related to electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
  • Familiarity with data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), and machine learning/artificial intelligence with a focus on hardware security.

 

Skills:

  • Proficient in legal research and analysis.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with patent prosecution processes.
  • Knowledge of data science/AI, networking technologies, and machine learning is a plus.
